In the capital tomorrow, the legendary Ukrainian dancer and choreographer Grigory Chapkis, who died on June 13, will be on his last journey. Farewell will be held in the building of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine.

The cause of death of Grigory Chapkis was old age and a long struggle with the disease. The famous choreographer was in intensive care at the Kyiv City Clinical Hospital. This was Chapkis’ third hospitalization in the past few months.
It should be noted that the farewell to Chapkis was originally planned in the Club of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, but the plans changed and the ceremony was moved to the building of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine on Volodymyrskyy Descent, 2.
The legendary choreographer will be buried, as previously reported, at the Baikovo cemetery, which is considered one of the most prestigious in Kyiv. The farewell ceremony will take place on June 18 from 11:00 to 13:00.
Grigory Chapkis was born on February 24, 1930, in Chisinau, and in 1945 he began dancing in the Labor Reserves Song and Dance Ensemble, in which he often performed in front of representatives of the Soviet elite, including Joseph Stalin.
Chapkis was a People’s Artist of Ukraine who began his career at the age of 16. Laureate of three international competitions, participant of more than 70 foreign tours during the Soviet era. He was a professor at the Department of Choreography at the Institute of Arts at Kyiv University named after Boris Grinchenko.
