A statue of George Floyd, who died in police custody last year, has been erected in Brooklyn, New York.

It is noted that in the coming weeks the statue will be moved to a permanent place in Union Square in Manhattan.
The jury in late April named a former policeman convicted of killing George Floyd, after hearing the testimony of dozens of witnesses, including eyewitnesses, policemen, and doctors. The verdict is expected on June 25. Chauvin faces up to 40 years in prison.
Protests after the death of George Floyd
George Floyd died during detention in Minneapolis in late May 2020.
According to the investigation, police officer Chauvin strangled him with his knee for almost nine minutes during his detention. Floyd’s death became widely known through eyewitness videos and sparked mass protests against racism and police violence in the United States and many other countries.
