Support for desktop widgets will be returned to the new operating system from Microsoft. Thus, users will be able to place on the screen information blocks from various services and applications. According to Walking Cat, owners of licensed copies of Windows 11 will be able to install widgets on the desktop, including from third-party manufacturers, not just from branded Microsoft applications. However, the blogger believes that in the first stage of OS deployment will be available only built-in widgets in Windows.
The insider’s message was confirmed by engineer Rafael Rivera. According to the expert, he does not see any mention that support for third-party widgets will appear in the original version of Windows 11. However, these extensions will be implemented gradually, with subsequent updates. The announcement of Windows 11 is scheduled for June 24.
The widget feature was the Windows Vista operating system, which was released in 2006. Termination of OS support ended on April 11, 2017.
