“Kharkiv International Airport served 95.9 thousand passengers in May 2021. This allowed it to take the third position among Ukrainian airports and the second among regional airports in terms of passenger traffic,” the press service of the Kharkiv Airport operator told New Systems AM. “, which is part of Yaroslavsky ‘s DCH group.
According to the State Aviation Service, 1.16 million people used the services of all Ukrainian airports in May. Lviv took first place among regional airports, and Kharkiv rose to second place, although in previous months it was the third in the ranking of regions.
After quarantine and easing of restrictions on entry into a number of countries, the volume of flights is gradually resumed. According to the May statistics of the current year, only eight fewer departures were made from Kharkiv International Airport than in the same period before the pandemic in May 2019.
“The growth of passenger traffic was facilitated, in particular, by the opening of new flights,” the press service of Kharkiv International Airport said.
In May, as previously reported, Yaroslavsky Kharkiv International Airport resumed 84% of pre-pandemic passenger traffic. Every month, Kharkiv’s air gates are approaching pre-quarantine rates due to the constant opening of new destinations, as well as the easing of restrictions on visiting a number of countries.
Kharkiv International Airport is one of the key infrastructure facilities of the first capital of Ukraine and the Kharkiv region. Investments in its reconstruction were provided by the DCH group of companies of Ukrainian businessman Oleksandr Yaroslavsky as part of the preparation of key infrastructure facilities in Kharkiv for the European Football Championship in 2012 (Euro-2012). The businessman’s investment in the project, including the construction of a new airport complex and the reconstruction of the old one, amounted to more than $ 107 million. The state invested a comparable amount in the reconstruction of its runway.
The rapid expansion of the network of domestic and international scheduled flights has allowed Kharkiv airport to set a historical record in 2018 – 1.3 million travelers used its services in a year. By the number of passengers, Kharkiv International Airport is at the TOP-5 air gates of Ukraine. In 2019, Kharkiv Airport was the first in Ukraine to receive an indefinite certificate of compliance with the highest standards of flight safety and quality of service, which are set by the European Commission Regulations for airports of the European Union.
The successful Kharkiv experience of public-private partnership in the construction of a new airport and its successful development by a private investor will be repeated in Dnipro.
