The mission of the German armed forces (Bundeswehr) in Afghanistan is over. On Tuesday, June 29, the last German soldiers in a camp in Mazar, soldiers on four military planes were redeployed to Germany. Bundeswehr soldiers were sent to Afghanistan after September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States. In December of that year, the Bundestag issued the first mandate for the German military to participate in a NATO-led mission to the Hindu Kush. In December 2014, the North Atlantic Alliance completed a 13-year military operation in the country and on January 1, 2015, launched a “Strong Support” mission to train Afghan government troops. In April, the alliance announced the beginning of the withdrawal from the Islamic Republic of forces participating in the mission.
On June 22, the Pentagon delayed the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan.
