The Egyptian Tourism Promotion Board is working to establish a Ukrainian language hotline.
Kyiv. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – July 1, 2021 – Tourism and Travel
This was stated by Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled El-Anany during a joint press conference with Ukrainian journalists in Cairo.
“I was in Ukraine last summer – this was my first visit after tourism resumed (after the first wave of COVID-19). “I was received very warmly, and I liked the visit,” the minister said.
According to him, at the request of the Ukrainian authorities, his office appealed to the Chamber of Hotel Establishments in Egypt to “use the Ukrainian language everywhere in the hotels that Ukrainians go to.”
The minister added that the Egyptian Agency for Tourism Promotion is now introducing the “hotline” in the Ukrainian language.
“I hope it works soon. Tourists will have someone who speaks Ukrainian… You are a very important source of foreign tourism, and this is a request of all tourists, so we will do it.”
El-Anany said that all new and renovated museums in Egypt will contain Ukrainian audio guides.
The minister pointed out that last year, new historical museums were opened in the most famous resting places for Ukrainians – Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada, and this year the Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Cairo. Immediate plans are for 20 new museums to be built, as well as an annual renewal for 20% of existing museums. They will all have Ukrainian audio guides.
In 2018 and 2019, Ukraine ranked second in the number of tourists who came to Egypt. In 2019, about 1.5 million Ukrainian travelers visited Egypt, and since the resumption of tourism in 2020, Ukraine has become the number one source of foreign tourism in Egypt.
During the working visit of the President of Ukraine to the Republic of Turkey in April, First Lady Olena Zelenska launched two new audio guides in the Ukrainian language in Turkey – at the Galata Tower in Istanbul and the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations in Ankara. In the past year, I have worked on Ukrainian-language audio guides at Turkey’s largest palace, Dolmabahce, as well as at the Ephesus Open-Air Museum and Goreme National Park in Cappadocia.
