In the Zaporizhzhya region near Berdyansk, illegal gold mining on an industrial scale is deployed. There, in the floodplain of the Berdy River, there is the Surozh deposit, explored in the early 1990s. However, there is evidence that gold dust and nuggets were found there 50 years ago. The gold content in it is distributed extremely unevenly – from 4 to 66 grams per ton of rock. The fineness is very high – 926-983.

During the Soviet era, the prospects for the gold content of the territory of Ukraine were not of state interest and were not properly assessed. But today private gold miners have shown interest in them. According to RIA Melitopol, the “gold rush” near Berdyansk immediately assumed an industrial scale.
In particular, documents were drawn up on the territory of the deposit (a gully with rocky outcrops) for an unemployed resident of another region, who allegedly needs this land for farming. In fact, it is not the first day that the “prospectors” have been extracting gold-bearing ore and exporting it in an unknown direction. On the social network, local residents are outraged by the open robbery of state resources, and the inaction of the police and special services.
