The humiliation of women soldiers was called in the parliament the initiative of the Ministry of Defense according to which the participants of the parade to the Independence Day of Ukraine should walk in heels. The statement was made by Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Olena Kondratyuk from the rostrum of the parliament.

“Article 24 of the Constitution of Ukraine clearly states the equal rights and opportunities of men and women. We talked a lot about respect for the army. We know and understand that women in the armed forces must also treat military women with respect. We have been working for a long time to ensure equal rights and opportunities for women soldiers … And how can we insult this simple idea-inspiration. This is to hold a military parade to the 30th anniversary of Independence where women soldiers must step on heels. This February trash, sorry, we saw on the website of the Ministry of Defense. Mr. Minister of Defense, Is that how you bring our army closer to NATO standards? Consider this our open appeal to investigate and report to the public who made this decision? Report how much money was spent on the purchase of these shoes from our taxes and who will be held liable? I publicly apologize for such humiliation to the army and veterans, ”Kondratyuk said.
She reminded that due to the changes in recent years, more than 31,000 women serve in the armed forces, of which more than 4,100 are officers. More than 13.5 thousand women received the status of combatants.
Her statement was supported by some women deputies. Some of them even put high-heeled shoes on the rostrum of the parliament.
A military parade dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence will take place on Khreshchatyk on August 24. A women’s “box” of servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will walk along the main street of the capital together with other units. According to the Ministry of Defense, the cadets will take a new military step at the parade – they will raise their legs lower. And they will walk on heels.
