Deputy from the “Servant of the People” Lesya Zaburanna drew attention to serious problems with the quality of drinking water in Kyiv.
Kyiv. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – July 2, 2021 – Ukraine News
“Today, PJSC JSC” Kyivvodokanal “due to the financial situation can not independently ensure the proper modernization of the existing water supply system, which was built in the 60s of last century,” – said the people’s deputy.
Zaburanna explained that after treatment, water in Kyiv moves through pipelines, some of which were laid in the 1960s: “Most of these pipes are made of cast iron, which is exposed to water and other environmental factors. As a result, the pipes are subject to corrosion and biological fouling. Therefore, there is secondary contamination of water with rust and microorganisms.
Zaburanna reminded that that is why the Council adopted the draft Law on Ratification of the Framework Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the French Republic on official support of the project to improve water supply in the city of Kyiv.
“In this document, we appealed to the leading companies in this field and the Government of the French Republic for technical support and credit financing,” she explained.
The total amount of the project, according to the deputy, is 70 million euros. The loan term is 40 years, including 15 years of the grace period. The loan rate for the entire period is fixed at 0.0092 percent per annum. Zaburanna called such conditions “unprecedentedly beneficial for Ukraine.”
In addition, the project states that 30% of the contract will be goods, works, and services of domestic production.
“This is an extremely important law for Kyiv residents, which is not only financially advantageous but also aimed at providing more than 3 million residents of the capital with quality drinking water,” Zaburanna said.
