New requirements – amendments to the law on marketing from 2009, according to the portal BuzzFeed. This is the latest victory for youth groups and the Norwegian Ministry of Children and Family Affairs. They call for tougher measures to address issues related to body culture and mental health.
The forthcoming law will require that advertising and sponsored publications that have changed body shape, size, or skin “due to retouching or other manipulation” be clearly marked as edited. Failure to comply will result in a fine. In particular, enlarged lips, pronounced muscles, and a narrowed waist are cited as examples.
Young people are under a lot of pressure to look good, including through advertising and social media, and images are often retouched digitally. It shows young people the ideal of beauty, which is impossible to achieve, “- said in a statement the relevant department.
The law, which has already received the support of some influential people, will apply to all major social networks, including Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok. It is unknown when it will take effect.
