The Indonesian government has abandoned plans to open the resort island of Bali to foreign tourists.
Kyiv. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – July 5, 2021 – Tourism and Travel
The decision was made due to new restrictions on mobility and store opening hours in Java and Bali to stop the rise in COVID-19 cases and curb the spread of the highly contagious version of the Delta virus.
According to Luhut Coordinator for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, who heads the intergovernmental group on coronavirus, the government has focused on reducing COVID-19 infections while trying to vaccinate Indonesians as soon as possible.
“With this (option), Delta cannot be reopened (Bali for foreign tourists). So we don’t think about it anymore,” the minister said.
The island was planned to open to foreign tourists in July.
