President Volodymyr Zelensky met with the Secretary-General of the World Customs Organization. Politicians discuss customs reform in Ukraine.
According to the President’s Office, the support of international partners for reforms is very important for Ukraine. Customs reform is one of Zelensky’s priorities.
“As for customs reform, I do not lose hope to reform the Ukrainian customs, and this is one of my priorities. In fact, there are many questions about the activities of our customs, service, and transparency of customs procedures,” said the President.
At the same time, he stressed that the Ukrainian customs are changing, and the filling of the budget from its work is increasing. This indicates that some processes have become more transparent.
Secretary-General Kunio Mikuriya stressed the importance of supporting a stable process of reforming Ukrainian customs, which is already making progress.
Zelensky noted that the World Customs Organization, of which Ukraine has been a member since 1992, has been helping us for a long time in educational programs to train specialists for customs. But Ukraine would like even more help.
“We are talking about a system of training, technological processes, support for ensuring the transparency of customs,” the head of state explained.
Mikuria expressed readiness to provide experts from the World Customs Organization for methodological support of the reform. And also to involve experts in preparation and increase of a professional level of employees of the State customs service of Ukraine.
Customs reform:
Creating a network of “open customs spaces”. This will help increase customs salaries, modernize customs infrastructure and digitalize the customs system.
Criminalization of smuggling.
Unification of the customs rate, etc.
