According to the fund’s executive director Mark Suzman, the couple, announcing their divorce in early May, complied with their commitment to participate fully in the fund’s activities.
“Over the past two decades, Bill and Melinda have grown a foundation that they often call their fourth child. However, they agreed that if after two years one of them decides that he cannot continue working together, Melinda will resign as co-chairman and trustee of the fund, ”said Suzman.
According to him, Melinda will receive funds from the founder of Microsoft for independent charity.
Meanwhile, The New York Times writes that Gates will thus buy out his ex-wife’s right to work for the fund.
However, Susman said that the decision does not mean the inevitable departure of Melinda Gates, reports The Wall Street Journal.
“Bill and Melinda, individually and together, have assured me of their firm intention to continue to work together as co-chairs of the fund in the long run,” he said.
