A US mission to the OSCE said at a meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna on July 8 that Russia is not and has not been a mediator in the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

The charge d’affaires said: “One thing is very clear. Russia has not been a mediator in this conflict and never has been. The United States urges Russia to reverse its unhelpful and harmful approach to the conflict it is provoking, and remove its forces and materiel from eastern Ukraine. Acting Ambassador, James E. According to the American diplomat, instead of engaging in good faith and taking concrete measures to improve the lives of civilians residing in the areas it temporarily controlled, Russia used the three-way contact group to impede progress.
“We all see Russia’s ploy for what it is – an attempt to force Ukraine to enter into direct negotiations with Moscow’s proxy forces. Russia’s obstructive approach to peace negotiations reveals its true motive in fomenting violence in eastern Ukraine – a futile attempt to derail Ukraine’s freely chosen path of full integration with the Euro-Atlantic community.”
