Ticks are dangerous pests that, under favorable hydrothermal conditions, can lead to the loss of a significant proportion of soybean yields. The 2021 agro-season is no exception: high temperatures and relatively low humidity, which currently prevail in most regions of Ukraine, contribute to the reproduction and local settlement of spider mites and Turkestan mites, as well as a complex of other dangerous pests. Therefore, under such conditions, UKRAVIT experts recommend paying special attention to the acaricidal and insecticidal protection of soybeans. This was reported by the company’s press service.

“As noted by our technical support managers from various fields, soybean crops in most growing regions are now gradually being infested and damaged by mites; locally, the spread of aphids, thrips, caterpillars of acacia firefly, scoop-gamma, etc., – says the head of the agronomic department “UKRAVIT” Alexander Myglovets. – Especially harmful mites are in dry, hot weather, which usually occurs in the middle phase of flowering-formation of beans. During this period, plants produce more assimilates, respectively, which are more attractive to the pest. Ticks pierce the leaf surface of the culture and feed on their cell sap. As a result, the plant’s transpiration increases, photosynthesis is disrupted, and it suffers from a lack of moisture and improper metabolism. These processes instantly affect the physiological state of crops – they wither, twist, darken and completely fall off the leaves. In the absence of control measures and in the years of outbreaks, mites can damage up to 90% of plants.
For effective control of mites and other pests in soybean crops, Alexander recommends choosing a powerful three-component insect acaricide Anti-tick Max (pyrimiphos-methyl, 200 g / l + pyridaben, 150 g / l + acetamiprid, 50 g / l). Pirimiphos-methyl is an organophosphorus active substance that promotes the accumulation of acetylcholine in the tissues of the nervous system of pests, which leads to dysfunction of various organs and poisoning of the whole organism. Pyridaben is a contact acaricide for the control of mites at all stages of development, which has a rapid paralyzing effect and a long period of protective action. Acetamiprid – a systemic insecticide that has contact and intestinal action; it blocks the transmission of nerve impulses through the synapse, causing the pest to die from severe nervous overexcitation.
The drug controls mites, as well as a complex of related soybean pests. It acts against all stages of development of the mite – egg, larva, nymph, adult, and also provides high effectiveness against pests that have latent stages of development. The drug is compatible with other pesticides and agrochemicals and can be used in anti-resistance protection programs.
In addition, says Alexander, in the new agricultural season, the company plans to launch an innovative insect acaricide Escalip (abamectin, 30 g / l + spirodiclofen, 200 g / l), which has a number of advantages over competing products. Abamectin in its composition – a contact active substance with pronounced translaminar properties. It stimulates the release of gamma-aminobutyric acid, which acts as an inhibitor of nerve impulse transmission, resulting in paralysis in pests, they stop feeding and die after a few days. And spirodiclofen is a contact active substance that blocks acetyl-CoA carboxylase, a key enzyme in the synthesis of fatty acids. Spirodiclofen is highly toxic to eggs, larvae, and nymphs of mites, and also affects adult females, disrupting their fertility.
The drug highly effectively controls a wide range of different types of mites, as well as aphids in soybean crops. And different mechanisms of action allow you to effectively control the types of mites that have become resistant to other acaricides. Due to the physicochemical properties of the active substances, Escalip provides both a rapid “knockout effect” and a long period of protective action. In addition, it, compared with other acaricides, has translaminar activity, which allows you to destroy mites at the bottom of the leaf, where they are mostly localized.
An important advantage of the drug in the changing conditions of the agro-season – 2021 is its minimal dependence on weather conditions – air temperature, precipitation, humidity, solar radiation, etc., compared to other competitive drugs. It is characterized by high lipophilicity (ability to penetrate through wax plaques) and extremely long photostability (half-life under the influence of ultraviolet light).
