“As of July 9, no books have been removed from the libraries of the region, administrative documents on this issue have not been accepted,” – said in response to a request.
According to her, the grounds for the seizure were allegedly appeals from representatives of the Christian communities of Ivano-Frankivsk and from the deputy head of the regional association “Prosvita” Mykhailo Sichka. Both appeals stated that the book “Princess + Princess: Long and Happy” undermines the institution of the family in Ukraine.
Information about the seizure of books caused a resonance on social networks. Sex education coach Olga Novak denied that the book undermined the notion of the traditional family, and called the officials’ decision discriminatory.
The purchase of the comic book “Princess + Princess” took place at the beginning of the year. In total, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Book Institute purchased 1,240 copies of this book. The library of the region received 46 copies.
The book is recommended for children from five years old, it describes the relationship between two girls, which ends with their wedding. The comic does not contain candid scenes or calls to change the orientation or downplay the importance of heterosexual couples by normalizing homosexual relationships. Instead, the information is presented with an emphasis on the fact that, regardless of gender, a person is able to choose the path to follow in life.
