Organizers of illegal migration instruct people from Asia and Africa before they enter the territory of Lithuania from neighboring Belarus. This was announced on national radio LRT by Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvidas Anushauskas.

“They (illegal migrants) themselves say that people in camouflage instruct them how to destroy documents, how to behave during the interview, what to say, what not to mention,” he said.
According to the Minister, Lithuania is aware of some of the organizers of illegal migration. “Some of the organizers and performers, companies, organizations that participate in this and enjoy the patronage of the Belarusian authorities, we know,” said Anushauskas.
According to the Defense Minister, the wave of migration to Lithuania was provoked by the Belarusian authorities in Minsk’s response to EU sanctions. “This is an asymmetric response from the Belarusian regime, which cannot apply symmetrical measures,” he said.
Since the beginning of the year, 1,732 illegal immigrants have been detained at the Lithuanian-Belarusian border, mostly from Asia, which is 21.4 times more than in the whole of 2020. On July 2, the Cabinet of Ministers of Lithuania declared a state of emergency in the country due to the migration crisis.
In late May, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said his country was a barrier to the transfer of drugs and illegal migrants to a neighboring country, but given the political pressure from the West, Minsk may consider whether to continue to do so.
