The Latin alphabet more accurately reflects the phonetic features of the Crimean Tatar language, therefore, work is underway in Ukraine to officially fix the alphabet in the Latin alphabet for the indigenous people. Moreover, in Russia, the Cyrillic alphabet is used exclusively for the Crimean Tatar language. The Deputy Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Snaver Seytkhalilev spoke about this in the program ” Actually ” of the TV channel ” Dom “.
Kyiv. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – July 14, 2021 – Ukraine Society and Culture
He recalled that the Ministry of Reintegration is now actively working on a strategy for the development of the Crimean Tatar language within the framework of the implementation of the recently adopted law “On the Indigenous Peoples of Ukraine”.
“We are reaching a completely new frontier, since the consolidation of the alphabet based on the Latin script, in principle, unites the entire Crimean Tatar people and opens up opportunities for a more cohesive integration with the entire Turkic-speaking world,” Seytkhalilev said.
Moreover, in Russia, languages develop only on the basis of the Cyrillic alphabet.
“The aggressor country is limited by its imperial approaches to this issue. Because there all languages develop only on the basis of the Cyrillic alphabet. And the Cyrillic alphabet very much restricts the Turkic languages, and is not optimal in terms of phonetic education,” he explained.
Seytkhalilev noted that the law on indigenous peoples and subsequent innovations in this direction allows Ukraine to take leadership in the development of peoples.
“Ukraine, by adopting the law itself [on indigenous peoples] and following the development track of the language based on the Latin alphabet, creates an absolutely new impetus in terms of leadership, as a state that is, in a broad context, a political nation and includes a lot of ethnic groups and peoples,” he summed up is he.
Let us remind you that at present the Crimean Tatar writing system functions in two alphabets – Cyrillic and Latin. Cyrillization of the alphabet was carried out in the Soviet Union in 1939. With the beginning of Ukraine’s independence, a gradual transition to the Latinized alphabet began. Now in the country, both Cyrillic and Latin alphabets are used for the Crimean Tatar language. In Russia, only Cyrillic is officially used.
