Ukraine Expects to Supply More Than 8 Million Doses of COVID-19 Vaccines in July

By the end of July, more than 8 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines should be delivered to Ukraine. This was stated by Prime Minister Denis Shmygal during an hour of questions to the government in the Verkhovna Rada.

“In total, more than 8 million doses of vaccines are planned to be delivered to Ukraine by the end of July. In addition to Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and CoronaVac, we expect 2 million doses of Moderna vaccine this month,” Shmygal said.

In addition, in August, in addition to other vaccines, including Pfizer, 2 million doses of Novavax are expected, he added.

Shmygal also noted that the medical system is currently being “strengthened” to be prepared for a worsening of the COVID-19 situation, especially in the wake of the arrival of the Delta strain.

“Currently, the percentage of oxygen supply to the bed stock is 95%. The percentage of occupied beds is about 8%,” the Prime Minister added.

Vaccination in Ukraine

In Ukraine, vaccination against COVID-19 started on February 24. The first vaccination was given to a doctor from Cherkasy – the vaccine Covishield (AstraZeneca) from India.

Since the end of February, 1.36 million people in Ukraine have received a full course of vaccination against coronavirus COVID-19. At the same time, a total of about 3.9 million vaccinations have been performed, of which a record 117,000 have been vaccinated in the last day.

According to the government on July 12, Ukraine has already received more than 5.6 million doses of various vaccines, including 2.4 million doses of CoronaVac, almost 1.7 million doses of Comirnaty, and almost 1.6 million doses of AstraZeneca from various manufacturers. As of the end of June 2021, according to the government, contracts have been signed for the supply of 37.3 million doses of vaccines from the state budget, in addition to 1.9 million doses of vaccines purchased for last year’s budget. Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko said that after the confirmation of all contracts for the supply of vaccines together with the COVAX program, Ukraine will receive more than 10 million vaccines from different manufacturers by the end of the summer, which are planned to vaccinate 5 million people. In the absence of problems with the supply of vaccines from COVID-19, by Independence Day in Ukraine will be made 220 thousand vaccinations per day, said Health Minister Viktor Lyashko.
