The International Swimming Federation (FINA) has suspended Russian swimmers Veronika Andrusenko and Alexander Kudashev. They are suspected of violating anti-doping rules.

The decision was made on the basis of information provided by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), which was obtained from the database of the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory. It contains the results of testing of Russian athletes for doping from 2012 to 2015. Based on the study of this database, WADA in 2020 initiated 298 cases in 27 sports.
At the Olympics in Tokyo, 25-year-old Alexander Kudashev had to perform in the 200-meter butterfly, 30-year-old Veronica Andrusenko – in the 4×100 freestyle relay.
President of the All-Russian Swimming Federation Vladimir Salnikov said that the federation will do everything possible to ensure that Russian swimmers are acquitted and able to perform at the Olympic Games. The investigation into Andrusenko and Kudashev is ongoing.
Earlier, the Russian Rowing Federation expelled Nikita Morgachev and Pavel Sorin from the team due to positive doping tests.
The instructions received by Russian Olympians to communicate with foreign journalists when asked about doping scandals should answer that the athlete has never participated in them, and those who have imposed sanctions against Russian sports should comment on the topic.
The Summer Olympics in Tokyo was supposed to take place last year but were postponed due to a pandemic. The start of the competition is scheduled for July 23, the last day of the Olympics – August 8. There will be no spectators in the stands in Tokyo.
