Windows 11 will include a new feature called Dynamic refresh rate, which automatically switches between 60 and 120 Hz modes, depending on the user’s tasks. That is, the screen will refresh at a low rate while you are working with emails or typing a text document, and at a high rate at the time of scrolling through voluminous documents or drawing with a digital pen.
You can test DRR now in Windows 10 Insider Preview on compatible laptops with 120Hz displays and VRR technology. In addition, you need a DRR-capable graphics driver (WDDM 3.0) and one of these applications:
Smoother handwriting: Microsoft Office, Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Whiteboard, Microsoft Photos, Microsoft Sticky Notes, Microsoft To-Do, Snip & Sketch, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Illustrator, Drawboard PDF, Inkodo;
-Smoother scrolling: Microsoft Office.
Dynamic refresh rate is enabled in the Settings → System → Display → Advanced display panel. The dxdiag utility (Display tab → Drivers) will help to check the graphics driver for compatibility. The developers note that the new technology will not be used in games, gamers are still offered an independent technology Variable refresh rate (Variable refresh rate).
