“Two sources close to Zelensky told the FT that Shevchenko risks being replaced,” the newspaper wrote.
According to the newspaper, personnel decisions in the NBU complicate negotiations with the IMF on the tranche.
In an interview with the Financial Times, Shevchenko said that the window available for loan approval was “not as significant as we would like.” He also predicts that this year the IMF will allocate $ 3.2 billion to Ukraine.
At the same time, an expert on the sovereign debt of developing countries in BlueBay Asset Management and an expert on Eastern Europe Timothy Ash in a comment to the publication questioned the reputation of Shevchenko as head of the NBU.
“We can argue whether he retained the institutional power of the NBU, but I would say that it is much weaker than when he joined,” said Timothy Ash.
In July 2020, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine appointed Kyryl Shevchenko Chairman of the NBU.
At the end of 2020, the Board of the National Bank of Ukraine decided to change the distribution of subordination verticals, in particular by reducing the number of divisions subordinated to the head of the NBU Kirill Shevchenko by about a third.
At the end of June, the heads of the licensing department of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) resigned in full. The reason for the mass dismissal is the position of the NBU, which has departed from the standards of “transparent” decision-making. This threatens to “roll back reforms in the banking sector.”
A wave of official resignations has taken place in Ukraine.
Since July 15 resignation filed Interior Minister of Ukraine Arsen Avakov, who held the post for 7 years. According to the head of the “Servants of the People” faction David Arahamiya, the statement on the release of Avakov at the request of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky
Arahamiya also hinted that 304 personnel decisions should be expected in the government in the fall.
