Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis described the agreement between the United States and Germany on the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline as a mistake and suggested how to fix it.
Kyiv. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – July 23, 2021 – Diplomatic Affairs
“I think this is a mistake and this mistake will be costly,” he said. I see opportunities to correct this mistake…if Ukraine is offered an action plan for NATO membership or if the launch of a gas pipeline is used as a lever to demand the withdrawal of Russian forces from Ukraine.”
In his opinion, the new gas pipeline is a “big victory” for Russian President Vladimir Putin, and it is necessary to make the Russian leader “pay a really heavy price for this victory.”
The Lithuanian Foreign Minister stressed that this is a serious lever that can be used to achieve minimum positive results. If this is not done, it will be a loss … first of all, for those countries that have agreed to Nord Stream 2.
