At least 110 people have died in landslides and floods caused by torrential rains in the state of Maharashtra in western India.

Rains fell on hundreds of villages, sweeping away houses and leaving residents in a difficult position.
The Indian military is helping efforts that are being held back by difficult conditions. The state had the heaviest July rains in decades.
Many factors are contributing to the floods, but experts say climate change caused by global warming increases the likelihood of extreme rains.
On Friday, Indian officials said most of the deaths were caused by landslides and floods in two areas.
Officials said at least 38 people were killed when a landslide razed a small village southeast of Mumbai, India’s financial capital.
State Secretary Udhav Thackeray convened an emergency meeting to ask officials to help the victims.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was “concerned about the deaths” and that the government would provide assistance to the victims. The Indian Navy and Disaster Management Authorities have been deployed to assist in rescue operations in coastal areas.
One coastal area was completely cut off after the collapse of bridges and mobile towers in the area.
Authorities have asked residents in difficulty to climb to the roofs of houses, where rescuers by helicopter can find them. In Mumbai, two people were killed and 10 others were injured when a house collapsed in an area of the city on Friday.
Trains stopped, and low-lying areas of the city turned into flood zones.
Heavy rains in Mumbai are not uncommon. Floods occur annually during the rainy season in the city, but in recent years their intensity has increased.
Thousands of people migrate to the city every day in search of work. This contributes to rapid – and often unregulated construction, forcing many to live in low-quality buildings.
