US Chargé d’Affaires George Kent, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, told how he learned the Ukrainian language.

“It was not difficult. I worked here at the embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine, for two terms. At first, I was only a Russian-speaking employee of the embassy. And I promised my Ukrainian friends that if I had the opportunity to return, I would definitely study the Ukrainian language, and during the second term – I would speak Ukrainian. Well, I used to work in Poland. Knowledge of Polish and Russian was very useful. I studied Ukrainian at our institute for four months, and then I started working here in Kyiv, ”Kent said in an interview in which he spoke Ukrainian.
On July 12, the US Embassy in Ukraine announced that US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State George Kent had begun work in Kyiv as Chargé d’Affaires of the United States. He is temporarily replacing Christina Quinn.
