Dr. Muhammad Suleiman Al-Jasser has been appointed as the new head of the Islamic Development Bank for the next five years.

He has been working as an advisor to the General Secretariat of the Saudi Council of Ministers and head of the General Authority for Competition since 2016.
Al-Jasser also received a Ph.D. He received a master’s degree in economics from the University of California in 1986. He received a master’s degree in economics from the same university in 1981, and a bachelor’s degree in economics from San Diego State University in 1979.
He served as the Kingdom’s Minister of Economy and Planning from 2011 to 2015, and Governor of the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) between 2009 and 2011. He also served as Deputy Governor and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency from November 1995 to February 2009.
He participated in major international events, including meetings of the Group of Twenty at the levels of deputy, ministers, governor, and full summit. Al-Jasser also participated in the periodic meetings of the Bank for International Settlements from 1997 to 2011, participated in local and international seminars, and gave frequent lectures on economic and monetary policies.
His previous membership in committees, councils, and ministerial councils includes the Council of Economic and Development Affairs, the Supreme Council for Civil Defense, the Ministerial Committee for Mining Affairs, and others.
Al-Jasser received many awards such as the King Abdulaziz Medal of the First Class in 2001, the Euromoney Award (Emerging Markets) for the Governor of the Central Bank of the Middle East and North Africa for the year 2009, and the Arab Bankers Association Achievements Award for North America. In 2010, the “The Banker” award and “Central Bank Governor of the Year in the Middle East” in 2011.
