During this lawsuit, British journalists Catherine Pelton and Harper Collins have to defend themselves against complaints, particularly from one of Russia’s richest, Roman Abramovich, about the allegations in their book on Putin.
The book was published in 2020 under the title “Putin’s People: How the KGB Regained Russia, Then Attacked the West,” which came to light after years of journalistic research and work in Russia as a reporter for the Financial Times.
Journalist Bilton says that she tried to trace the path of Putin and the people around him to power, many of whom, like Putin himself, were members of the KGB and members of the State Security Committee of the Soviet Union and later became high-ranking officials and wealthy businessmen.
Other prosecutors, including billionaire Michael Friedman and his business partner Peter Aven, also accuse the publisher of what they describe as defamation of President Putin.
Businessman Shalva Cherensky has also been named as a plaintiff against the publishing house and against Catherine Pelton for libel.
The book has received many positive reviews in the Western media.
