Odessa City Council has decided to create a museum of satirist Mykhailo Zhvanetsky, who died last year.

The museum will be located in the historic center – on the street. Staroportofrankivska, 133, in apartment № 16 (ground floor), where the writer lived for a long time. This apartment houses the museum collections of the famous satirist.
According to mayor Gennady Trukhanov, the museum will be created with the consent of the Zhvanetsky family.
In order to implement the project, today the deputies created a municipal institution “Odessa Municipal Museum-Apartment of Mykhailo Zhvanetsky”, its charter was approved.
According to the decision, it was created to study, preserve, use and promote monuments and information related to the life and work of the famous satirist.
“Also to involve citizens in the achievements of national literature,” the decision reads. In particular, it involves the discovery, collection, storage, study of various objects and collections related to the life and creative heritage of Zhvanetsky.
It is planned that the museum will be visited by numerous tourists. Also in the future – holding thematic conferences, round tables, exhibitions, creative meetings, competitions, theatrical performances, festivals, workshops, and more.
On November 6, 2020, satirist Mykhailo Zhvanetsky died at the age of 87. In connection with his death, mourning was declared in Odessa.

People’s Artist of Ukraine, satirist writer Mykhailo Zhvanetsky was born in Odesa on March 6, 1934, and died on November 6, 2020, in Moscow.
He graduated from the Odessa Institute of Naval Engineers with a degree in “Mechanical engineer of lifting and transport equipment of ports.” He worked in the port of Odesa as a mechanic. During his student years, he took part in amateur activities, began to write miniatures and monologues, which he often performed in the student theater “Parnassus-2”.
Later, after moving to Russia, he worked at the Arkady Raikin Theater, later, together with Roman Kartsev and Viktor Ilchenko, he created the Odessa Theater of Miniatures. He is also the creator of his own theater, the author of hundreds of popular miniatures and several books.
