The first-ever seminar for the command and political commissars of the Korean People’s Army (KPA) was held in Pyongyang from July 24 to 27. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has called for every effort to increase the combat capability of all units, the CTAC news agency reported on Friday.

“Currently, enemy forces are systematically increasing their capabilities to launch a pre-emptive strike on the DPRK, increase weapons and intensify all kinds of military exercises for aggression. We must make every effort to increase the combat capability of all units, “said Kim Jong Un in his speech at the seminar.
The event was attended by military leaders and political commissars of all army units. It discussed issues of tactical and political training for the army, as well as increasing defense capabilities against the background of growing new threats.
Pyongyang has traditionally condemned the joint maneuvers of the South Korean and US armed forces, calling them a rehearsal for the invasion of North Korea. In recent years, Seoul and Washington have abolished or reduced the number of exercises due to the pandemic and support the diplomatic process aimed at involving Pyongyang in peaceful dialogue. This year, joint military exercises between the United States and South Korea are scheduled for August.
North Korea and South Korea have resumed a hotline. In the spring, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un acknowledged that the situation in the DPRK was worse than ever.
