Kyiv is not considering the option of purchasing gas from Russia. This was stated in an interview with Radio Svoboda by the chairman of the board of Naftogaz Yuri Vitrenko.

“We do not consider such an option at all, we do not talk to anyone about it. Here we have such a very clear position. In principle, we want Ukraine to start exporting gas, not importing it. We now produce about 20 billion cubic meters a year, and the whole of Ukraine consumes about 30 billion cubic meters. Accordingly, we import 10 billion. But if we look only at household consumers, we will see a slightly different situation, ”Vitrenko said.
He added that Ukraine needs to extract more gas than all consumers use.
“Because we have a single gas transportation system, we do not separate molecules separately for the population, separately – for the industry. So it doesn’t work. And we need to move on to the fact that we can export gas. What do you need to do about this? The first and most important thing is not to even increase production, but to reduce inefficient gas consumption. For example, one of the largest and most problematic sectors that consume gas is district heating. Ukraine has the opportunity to switch to district heating from gas as an energy source, for example, to biomass or biogas, respectively, ”Vitrenko said.
Ukraine officially refused to export Russian gas after the occupation of Crimea and the beginning of the aggression in Donbas.
