August 1 in Ukraine marks the Day of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The holiday was established in Ukraine in accordance with the Decree of the President of Ukraine “On the Day of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine” of June 27, 2007. № 579/2007.
Nevertheless, the history of the Ukrainian Air Force has a century-long history. The first detachments were established in 1917 by a decree of the Central Council. They mainly performed an intelligence function, although from time to time they took part in hostilities. One of the most famous aviators of that time was Petro Franko, who created a separate air regiment at the UGA.
The President of Ukraine congratulated the personnel and veterans of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“Dear soldiers of the Air Force!
Dear veterans!
Congratulations on the Day of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Round-the-clock flight crews, servicemen of anti-aircraft missile and radio engineering units are on combat duty and perform important flight tasks, protecting the peaceful Ukrainian sky.
Due to participation in international exercises, air transport operations, and equipment demonstrations, the high professionalism of Ukrainian military pilots is known not only in Ukraine but also far beyond its borders.
The servicemen of this powerful type of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirm their skill, courage, and heroism on a daily basis during combat missions in the air defense of groups of troops (forces) that oppose Russian aggression in eastern Ukraine.
Eternal memory and glory to the heroes who died defending the freedom and independence of our state.
I would like to thank the servicemen and veterans of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for their selfless performance of duty, loyalty to the military oath, and significant contribution to the common cause of Ukraine’s defense.
I am convinced that you will continue to stand guard over the air borders of our state.
I wish you and your families good health, happiness, and new achievements in the name of our victory.
