The Roscosmos Scientific and Technical Council have recommended that the technical design of the new Russian Orbital Service Station (ROSS) begin technical development, as “further operation of the Russian ISS segment after 2024 creates additional risks” due to aging equipment. This is stated in a statement by the council, published on the website of the state corporation on Saturday, July 31.
Kyiv. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – August 01, 2021 – Technology
As specified in the text, the development of the project is necessary for connection with the planned completion of the Russian segment of the ISS by 2028. The new station can operate as part of the ISS or as an independent national station.
The “Science” module caused a malfunction in the ISS
Two days earlier, on July 29, the Russian multifunctional laboratory module “Science” was successfully launched and launched into orbit from the Baikonur Cosmodrome. It’s docking with the ISS was carried out manually. This was followed by the involuntary start of the module’s engines, which caused the ISS to turn 45 degrees.
Then the control over the module was restored, and the station was returned to its original position. The launch of the Science module was planned in 2017, but it was postponed for technical reasons.
