More than 700 people were rescued while trying to cross the Mediterranean on dangerous and weak ships.

Ocean Viking has carried out six separate rescue operations in international waters since 31 July. Other ships of the group were also involved. Most of the operations took place off the coast of Libya and Malta.
The migrants were on a multi-deck wooden boat when other ships came to their aid.
Migrants often board boats in Libya and Tunisia to reach the European Union via the central Mediterranean. The crossing is dangerous, and overcrowded ships are often in trouble.
According to the UN, 930 migrants have died in the central Mediterranean this year.
Libya is one of the main destinations for migrants hoping to cross the Mediterranean dangerously. Most of them are trying to reach the Italian coast, which is located about 300 kilometers.
Two humanitarian rescue ships rescued 394 migrants from a dangerously crowded wooden boat in the Mediterranean on Sunday night during an operation that lasted about six hours.
