For the second time in a row (after the 2016 Games in Rio), Jean Beleniuk advanced to the finals of the Olympics in wrestling at the Tokyo Games.
Kyiv. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – August 03, 2021 – Sport
Belenyuk reached the semifinals thanks to two victories. Starting his performances in the 1/8 finals, the Ukrainian wrestler first defeated the European champion Zurab Datunashvili, whom he lost in 2021. Then he knocked out the representative of Algeria Bashid Sid Asar due to the fact that the latter scored a point.
Belenyuk argued with Croatian Ivan Guklek for reaching the final. In 2021, the Croatian wrestler became the winner of the world qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games.
Guklek was the first point in the fight. The Croat looked more active than the Ukrainian, but on the ground, Beleniuk did not give a chance to the opponent.
The first three minutes ended for Belenyuk with a minimal gap in points. However, a minute later the Ukrainian came out ahead – took a point for activity, and then – roll and six more points. Belenyuk kept the advantage and won.
It should be noted that Jean Beleniuk is the second finalist after Parviz Nasibov at the 2020 Olympics.
