The incidence of coronavirus in Ukraine has not risen enough to return children to distance learning.
Kyiv. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – August 04, 2021 – Education
This opinion was expressed in an interview with “Word and Deed” by the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhiy Shkarlet.
He believes that there are only two scenarios according to which distance learning should be returned. Among them, Scarlett named:
growth of respiratory diseases, which is recorded mostly in the off-season;
the spread of the Delta coronavirus strain, which is already attacking many countries around the world.
“Thus, the probability of returning to distance learning is always there. It all depends on us,” said Scarlett.
According to the Minister, if 80% of school staff in Ukraine are vaccinated, schools will be able to continue to operate in person, despite the introduction of “yellow”, “orange” and “red” zones.
Regarding the vaccination of teachers before September 1, he noted that in the Kyiv region, as of today, 90% of teachers have been vaccinated.
Among kindergarten teachers and out-of-school education staff – 31%. But these figures vary depending on the area of the immunization campaign.
“Preschool education, secondary education – 31%. But there are institutions where 70 and 90% are vaccinated, in some only 7%,” – said Scarlett.
It will be recalled that according to a poll conducted by the Democratic Initiatives Foundation and KIIS, the vast majority of parents of students in Ukraine (65%) oppose distance education, as this form has led to a decrease in the level of children’s success.
