“What we will do in terms of system security – the annual forum will be secure. We want to hold it in Odessa. It will be an element of the “Crimean platform”, the exact name is not ready yet. Its main goal is to address militarization and security issues in the Black Sea and Azov basins. We want to attract as many international experts as possible here, and this forum will be annual. That is, it will also be such a joint initiative of the state and experts, and this forum, which will be held on the shores of the Black Sea in Odesa with the involvement of government officials and experts from other countries, it will be an annual, “Japarova said.
The First Deputy Minister reminded that security issues a priority for the Crimean Platform include such topics as militarization, the consequences of militarization, and security challenges that not only Ukraine but the whole world may have and already has.
Earlier today, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba announced that another president of a foreign state had confirmed his participation in the inaugural summit of the Crimean Platform, which will be held on August 23 in Kyiv. Currently, the number of foreign representatives who have confirmed their participation in the summit is 33.
The Crimean Platform is a diplomatic initiative of Ukraine, in the future an international coordination mechanism to return the issue of Crimea to the agenda, protect human rights in Crimea and promote the de-occupation of the peninsula.
On February 26, 2021, Volodymyr Zelensky signed the Decree “On Certain Measures Aimed at Deoccupation and Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the City of Sevastopol”, which decided to establish the Organizing Committee for the preparation and holding of the Crimean Platform. According to the document, the Foreign Ministry coordinates Ukraine’s participation in the Crimean Platform. The Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the Preparation of the Constituent Summit of the Crimean Platform is the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba. The Crimean Platform is expected to be represented in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The date of the Constituent Summit is set for August 23, 2021, and a declaration may be adopted based on its results.
