UN Global Fund for Sustainable Development Ambassador, Deputy Chairman of the Batkivshchyna Party MP Vadym Ivchenko agreed to establish a Ukrainian-American platform for the development of the bioethanol industry in Ukraine during a meeting in Washington with the Executive Director of the Advanced Biofuels Business Council Council) Brooke Coleman. How this may affect the further development of the bioethanol industry in Ukraine in a comment the chairman of the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine Georgy Geletukha told.

“Bioethanol is a very powerful and promising direction for Ukraine. Because we are an agrarian state and have a very large amount of raw materials that can be used for bioethanol production, we have a production that is very close to bioethanol production. I mean distilleries and sugar factories – traditional industries that have always developed in Ukraine and on their basis you can very quickly increase the production of bioethanol.
In this respect, America is very suitable for us as an example, because that is exactly what it does, ”explains Geletukha.
According to the expert, the US experience is also relevant for Ukraine due to the use of a specific crop – corn, which is widely produced in Ukraine.
“We are also one of the world’s leaders in corn production. But what are we doing now: we send most of the corn to China, and China makes bioethanol from it. It seems to me that it is very logical to make bioethanol yourself and then send it to same China or the EU yourself, ”says Geletukha.
In his opinion, the steps of Ukrainian politicians towards the stimulation and development of the bioethanol industry will have a significant impact on improving the environment in the country.
“The more gasoline we replace with renewables, the less we will emit greenhouse gases. The United States has been doing this for decades … In United States, these plants are very powerful, they produce bioethanol, high-protein feed for livestock, work on corn: almost everything can be copied, replicated, and have the same powerful industry in Ukraine as the United States. That is, we need American technologies, experience, and investments, ”Geletukha summed up.
For his part, People’s Deputy Ivchenko is confident that his agreement to create a Ukrainian-American platform for the development of the bioethanol industry in Ukraine will help domestic producers.
“We agreed to create a Ukrainian-American platform for the development of bioethanol in Ukraine and to provide assistance with innovations, equipment, and financial instruments for its purchase to those Ukrainian companies that want to engage in bioethanol,” said Ivchenko.
