Today, August 20, German Chancellor Angela Merkel will pay a visit to Russia and meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. The leaders plan to discuss the conflict in eastern Ukraine and Afghanistan. This was stated earlier during a briefing in Berlin by the press secretary of the Cabinet of Ministers of Germany Steffen Seibert.

“During the meeting, the leaders will talk about major international issues: the conflict in eastern Ukraine, for which Russia can do more than it does, about Belarus. The situation in Afghanistan will also be on the agenda, “Seibert said.
Seibert also added that Merkel and Putin could discuss the situation in Belarus.
In Moscow, Merkel plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and two days later, on Sunday, the federal chancellor will visit Ukraine.
Earlier, Volodymyr Zelensky was informed that German Chancellor Angela Merkel would pay a working visit to Ukraine on August 22.
At the same time, the spokesman for the President of Ukraine Serhiy Nikiforov stated that the main issues on the agenda will be the security situation in eastern Ukraine, bilateral relations, and the launch of Nord Stream-2.
The next day after Merkel’s visit, on August 23, the Crimean Platform summit will take place. It will be attended by 40 representatives.
Nikiforov noted that Merkel had been invited to take part in the Crimean Platform summit, but the President’s Office did not know whether she would stay west after meeting with Zelensky.
