According to the agency, “Grace” is currently located just a few kilometers from the city of Posa Rica de Hidalgo in the municipality of the same name. The hurricane is moving in a westerly direction at a speed of about 4 m / s. The wind speed within the atmospheric phenomenon increased to 54 m / s.
According to the center, the hurricane could raise the water level by more than 2 m in its area of distribution. The report notes that strong waves may occur off the coast.
On Thursday, a Category 1 hurricane, Grace, struck Quintana Roo on the Yucatan Peninsula. According to the authorities, the atmospheric phenomenon caused minor material damage and did not lead to death. To date, the authorities have restored power supply to more than 60% of users who were left without electricity due to the natural disaster.
Hurricane season usually lasts in the Atlantic for six months – from early June to late November. The atmospheric phenomenon is classified as a tropical storm and gets its name if the wind speed within it reaches about 17.5 m / s. At a wind speed of 33 m / s and more, the storm becomes a hurricane.
