The Organization of Islamic Cooperation said on Sunday it would seek to help bring peace to Afghanistan and facilitate evacuations from the country.

During an emergency meeting of the 57-member body to discuss the situation in Afghanistan, the Secretary-General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen, called on the Taliban movement to respect international humanitarian law and the right to life and security.
Al-Othaimeen added that the organization expects a comprehensive dialogue and national reconciliation from the Afghan authorities.
The organization said that Afghanistan should never again be allowed to harbor “terrorist organizations”.
The final statement of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation stated that member states are concerned about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Afghanistan as a result of the influx of displaced people.
She added that the organization is committed to helping Afghanistan and bringing peace to the country.
The statement said that the Organization of the Islamic Conference stands by the Afghan people and stresses the need to protect their rights.
He also called on the Afghan parties to resolve their differences “peacefully.”
Saudi Arabia requested the emergency meeting.
