It is not uncommon to see truck drivers lifting the wheels of the rear axle of their vehicles. This is done for certain purposes.

Initially, the bridge was invented to provide fuel and environmentally friendly transportation.
An empty truck can consume up to 10 percent of fuel just to overcome the rolling resistance of several pairs of wheels.
The design solution allows one or two axles to be lifted by means of pneumatic devices at a load of fewer than 5 tons. This is called a “lazy bridge”.
This approach is necessary to increase the permissible load capacity of the truck. Because the more axles a car has, the more tons of cargo it can carry. In modern trucks, it is not the driver who raises or lowers the axles, but the automation. This protects the car from fraud, for example, at weight control points.
One of these “sloths” helps save up to 3 percent on fuel, and this figure is especially noticeable on wet roads. The large traction area of ??the semi-trailer with the road begins to break when hitting a puddle, respectively, fuel consumption increases.
Three-axle trucks are only needed when fully loaded. If it is empty, it is easier and more economical to ride on four wheels. Depending on the type of construction, the driver can be responsible for raising the wheels by lowering or raising the plow with a button. Also, sloths can work themselves, responding to the level of weight-bearing.
In addition, the “slow bridge” protects expensive tires from excessive wear. It also works for safety: the handling of such a truck improves, and the dynamics of traction increase. The empty truck starts moving more smoothly. The raised wheels help the truck operate a small site.
