Cycling
Cyclist Yegor Dementyev won the bronze medal in the pursuit race. The competition in Tokyo was held in the qualifying format, followed by the bronze and gold finals. Dementiev had to get into the top 2 qualifiers to fight for “gold”, and in the top 4 to have a chance at the medal.
Dementiev’s main contenders were Alistair Donahue, as well as Frenchman Dorian Fullon, the world champion in the sport.
In qualifying Dementiev took third place. He could not overtake either the Frenchman or the Australian, which is why he eventually fought for the bronze medal of the 2020 Paralympics. However, the Ukrainian cyclist won the bronze medal at the Paralympic Games. In the fight with another Frenchman Kevin Le Kunf, Dementiev managed to win a medal for himself.
But the fight for the “gold” of the 2020 Paralympics was won by Fullon. In the final, he overtook Donahue, finishing in the pursuit race with a new world Paralympic record, which he set in qualifying: 4: 18.274 minutes.
Judo
Judoka Yulia Ivanytska became a bronze medalist in the weight of up to 48 kg. Ivanytska started her performances at the Paralympics from the quarterfinal stage. She defeated the representative of Chinese Taipei Kai Lin Li (vase-ari reception), thanks to which she had the opportunity to compete for a Paralympic medal.
But the Ukrainian judoka could not reach the first Paralympic final. Ivanytska’s rival at this stage was the champion of Rio de Janeiro Sandrin Martine – the Ukrainian lost to her reception ippon.
However, Ivanytska managed to win the third bronze medal in a row. In the fight with the Japanese Shizuka Hangani, the Ukrainian also performed a vase-ari reception, thanks to which she won.
It should be noted that Ukraine has already won 13 medals at the Tokyo Games.
