Storm waves from hurricanes and tropical systems in the Gulf of Mexico are known to push the Mississippi from north to south. The hurricane throws huge amounts of seawater ashore.
Kelly Chandler, regional director of the Flood Protection Department in southeastern Louisiana East, said the dam system that would protect the New Orleans region from rising waters would be maintained.
Hurricane Ida covered the Louisiana coast on Sunday, suppressing winds stronger than Hurricane Katrina and a devastating storm surge that threatens to flood New Orleans with massive floods, power outages, and destruction.
The first death due to Hurricane Ida in Louisiana was reported.
