Yesterday the 78th annual Venice International Film Festival opened on the island of Lido.

The festival will run until September 11 and opened with a new film directed by two-time Academy Award winner Pedro Almodovar starring Academy Award winner Penelope Cruz.
The opening ceremony was hosted by Italian actress Serena Rossi, and the jury was presided over by Academy Award-winning South Korean and Cannes Film Festival director Boon Chung-ho (“Parasites” “Through the Snow”).
Twenty-one films were also entered in the main competition this year, including a new work by Ukrainian director Valentin Vasyanovich’s “Reflection” as well as “The Hand of God” by Paolo Sorrentino, “The Stringer’s Daughter” by Maggie Gyllenhaal, and others.
At the 78th Venice Film Festival, Ukraine is represented by three films at once where Oleg Sentsov’s “Rhinoceros” and the Slovak, Czech and Ukrainian co-production “Sensor” directed by Peter Kerekis participate in the program “Horizons”
