According to the mayor’s office, famous Odesa residents Oleksiy Botvinov, Mykhailo Reva, Dayana Yastremska and Borys Barskyi helped to decide on the sounds of the city for the sculpture. They shared their feelings, impressions, and the most important moments of their lives with the project team. It was these sounds that were recorded. Using a combination of sound design and 3D visualization programs, the artists transformed audio recordings into forms. The two-meter art object remotely resembles an open human ear.
The combination of the “monument of sound” also included impressions of the work of street musicians, roast bulls in a frying pan, the beep of the Vorontsov lighthouse, the surf, and more.
Similar sculptures, but with their own sounds, will appear in 6 more cities of Ukraine: Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Lviv, and Mariupol. A unified sound was also created for the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea.
Each sculpture is based on the sounds associated with the memories and reflections of famous citizens: artists, athletes, painters, scientists, and entrepreneurs. Interviews, search for forms, and the process of their creation can be seen in a series of documentaries.
