A fire broke out in a prison in Banten province, Indonesia, on the night of September 8. At least 40 people were killed.

Prisoners are still being evacuated from a prison in the westernmost province of Java, and the cause of the fire is currently unknown, but a power outage is suspected, police spokesman Yusri Yunus said.
He added that 73 people were also slightly injured.
Prisoners for drug-related crimes were sitting in the injured block. It is unknown how many people were present during the fire, but the prison is overcrowded.
As of September, the government in Tangerang, an industrial and manufacturing center near Jakarta, held more than 2,000 prisoners, well over 600, according to government figures.
Rescuers extinguished a fire in a room of a four-story dormitory in the city of Uman, minors were injured.
