The erection of the monument was the dream of Roland Frank, Frank’s last grandson, who did not live to see the event for only a few weeks.

The opening and consecration ceremony of the information table at the construction site of the sculptural composition to Ivan Franko took place in the center of Kyiv.
Among those present were representatives of the city authorities, members of Ivan Franko’s family, as well as priests of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, who consecrated the symbolic place.
“Today, a stone was laid at the intersection of Institutska and Lipska streets, where a monument to the great Ukrainian, who is known all over the world, will be erected in the near future. It was the dream of his grandson, Roland Frank, with whom I was personally acquainted, but, unfortunately, he did not live to this day. Therefore, we must do everything to ensure that outstanding Ukrainians who have made a great contribution to our country and love Ukraine are honored, ” said Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko at the opening.
The mayor noted that competition is currently being held, based on the results of which the best project of the composition will be selected. Therefore, approximately during the year, the sculptural composition should be installed.
It will be erected by the Ivan Franko International Foundation on the site of a monument to Soviet party leader Dmytro Manuilsky, which was dismantled as part of decommunization.
“Kyiv has finally determined the place for a full-length sculptural composition of Ivan Franko – not only as a writer and poet but also as a scientist, thinker, statesman, and one of the founders of Ukrainian statehood, ” said Ivan Kurus, Director of the Ivan Franko International Foundation. – This is a landmark in the government quarter of the capital because next to it is a monument to Philip Orlyk – the author of the first Constitution. I am sure that the monument will be one of the most beautiful in Kyiv. “
