He thus commented on Putin’s and Lukashenko’s intentions to build a “union state.”
To demonstrate the seriousness of its intentions for integration within the union state, a narrative is deliberately introduced not only about economic integration plans with 28 programs, but also a common defense space. We must closely monitor the West 2021 exercise, because “And we understand that if Russia absorbs Belarus in one form or another, we will get another 1,000 km of sources of danger to sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the minister said.
He also added that “Lukashenko is only pretending to be in control of the situation.”
“In fact, the depth of integration is decided by Putin. Lukashenko has learned to play with Russia. At each stage of integration, Lukashenko will resist, trying to bargain for additional conditions,” Kuleba said.
Meeting between Putin and Lukashenko
As UNIAN reported, on September 9, Putin and Lukashenko met in Moscow and signed 28 programs on the so-called “union state”.
In particular, during the meeting, they agreed that on December 1, 2023, an agreement on the unification of the gas market of Russia and Belarus will be signed.
In addition, the creation of a single market for oil and petroleum products, as well as an agreement on a single market for electricity.
Putin and Lukashenko also agreed on new financial support for Minsk, which from September to the end of 2022 will amount to about $ 630 million.
At the same time, it is planned to create a common payment area within the “union state”, as well as to lift Russia’s current restrictions on air services with Belarus.
