A kilo of these costs 3.8 euros. “This year we grow about 14,000 plants using organic farming methods. The weather helped us, and the tomatoes are healthy, with a high Brix value and a deep red color. They are sold on the market for about 3.80 euros per kilogram, “said Gabriele Colla, president of the association.
Plants are grown with supports, and each plant gives 2-3 tomatoes, which can reach 1.2 kg each. Tomato is intended for fresh consumption and for processing into the sauce. This variety of tomatoes began to grow near Parma 150 years ago. But in the 1950s, it lost its popularity, most likely due to the thin skin that made the fruit sensitive to harvesting, transportation, and storage. In 2017, the variety began its second life.
