“Auckland will remain at level 4 until 23:59 next Tuesday (September 21 – ed.),” Ardern said.
On Monday, health authorities recorded 33 new cases of COVID-19, all in Auckland, in excess of the figures recorded over the weekend. However, only one case was not related to the outbreak, the prime minister said.
“Obviously there is no spread of the virus in Auckland, but as long as we have new cases, there are risks,” Ardern said.
The country’s cabinet has also decided to move Auckland to a less stringent – third – level of quarantine restrictions. At the same time, for the rest of New Zealand, the restrictions of the 2nd, even weaker, level will apply for another week, writes the NZ Herald.
The country was shut down on August 17 after one case of the Delta strain was detected. Since then, New Zealand has been closed to a severe lockdown. Later, in all regions of the country except Auckland, restrictions were eased slightly.
During the entire pandemic in New Zealand, more than 3.5 thousand cases of coronavirus infection were detected and 27 people died.
